Peru. Cable television rates will remain stable in the medium term mainly due to the low profitability registered by the operating companies of this service, which Peruvians can access in packages from 35 to 78 nuevos soles (from about US $ 12 to US $ 28), according to the company and type of plan.
This was confirmed by the president of the Peruvian Association of Cable Television (APTC), Ovidio Rueda: "By the end of this year 2011 the projections for this market are in that line, driven mainly by the economic stability that is lived in the country, which allows Peruvians to allocate part of their income to this service", he told local media.
Multinational companies lead the market in this nation with more than 60% of the total share. Movistar TV (Telefónica), DirecTV and Claro TV are the most dominant firms. The capital Lima concentrates 65% of subscriptions in Peru and the provinces report 35% of a total of 1.5 million users who use the service.
Annually, the industry in that nation is showing an annual increase in the number of subscriptions of 20%, something that according to Rueda is justified by the high interest of Peruvians to obtain better image quality and better access to Broadband service.
