Latin America. Ecological and efficient trends in Europe and the United States in terms of environmentally friendly practices are gradually entering Latin America.This time the advances of LED lighting come to the region to be implemented in companies, cities and homes in order to reduce costs and alleviate the energy resources of Latin countries, as explained by María Arce, MANAGER of LED products of GE Iluminación for Latin America.
One of GE's new developments, which is part of the implementation of this technology in the region, is the 9-watt Energy Smart LED bulb, designed to replace the common 40-watt incandescent bulbs, which provides the same amount of light with an energy saving close to 77%. This focus will be on the Latino market from the first quarter of 2011.
In terms of the adoption of technologies in the region, Maria said that this is done quite quickly. It also estimates that the implementation of LED technology in 2010 will be four or five times larger than in 2009 due to the need to use environmentally friendly products. "In Chile, in particular, both the government and the private sector are working hard to recover the country's infrastructure, while meeting global demands for energy efficiency," he said.
This type of lighting is being used in different sectors and applications such as light signs, traffic signs, indoor and outdoor lighting and street lighting. Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Venezuela, Chile, Brazil and Argentina are the countries that present the most progress on this issue.
Over the next six months, GE will continue the Latin American tour that began in June, in which it presents the advantages of this lighting and its applications to consumers.
