Created by Decree 660/1996 from the merger of the CNT and the CNCT; and functions as a decentralized agency of the Ministry of Communications of the Nation. The current leadership of the Commission is exercised by a board of directors consisting of 5 members, appointed by the National Executive Power.
Its
organizational structure was approved by Decree 1626/96 and its specific competences are defined in the Manual of Missions and Functions (Res. CNC 2065/99)Its objectives are:
- Exercise police power over the radio spectrum, telecommunications and postal services, applying and controlling effective compliance with current regulations on the matter. Apply the sanctions provided for in the respective regulatory frameworks.
- Assist the Secretariat of Communications in the updating and elaboration of the Fundamental Technical Plans of Telecommunications and in the dictation of the general regulations of the services of its competence.
- Prevent and punish anti-competitive behavior
- Assist the Secretariat of Communications in the exercise of national representation before international organizations and entities.
