There is more strategic planning

Because production must be more efficient, more quantity at lower cost, investment in technology in Mexican industry is better planned.

"In Mexico, the adoption of technology has become slower in recent years," Marco Rabadán, General Director of Excellence in Communications and Technology, told TVyVideo+Radio. And this is because, as he mentioned, because today there is a strategic planning in companies and the changes of the television industry.

"Before it was almost by fashion that something new came out and everyone wanted it. Today the television industry changed a lot, they have to reduce costs, do more production but be more efficient, with less operating and investment costs. It is no longer invested for fashion or for being simply at the forefront, it is done with planning, "he said.

IP and 4K
In that same logic is that the adoption of IP has been a bit slow, because the project needs to pay for that investment. The same is the case of 4K, although the company has customers who already produce in 4K, especially the producers that sell to the OTT, on television still does not come out 4K on the air, that has slowed down the adoption of this technology.

"The important thing is that today customers buy technology that is designed for the future. To say the least, if you buy something HD today that is planned for growth at 4K, so that that investment is sustainable in the long term," he explained.

On the technological evolution of the industry, the Excellence executive said that it has impacted from two sides. Technology is much more accessible, before to set up a production house they had to invest millions of pesos. Today it no longer invests millions and can start producing in a more economical way. The impact in terms of profits are smaller, the millionaire sales of before are lower and there the integration of the solutions is key.

Trending
When asked about the trends that will mark the industry for the future, Marco Rabadán said that he sees two strong aspects: one is the IP, for which a different investment is needed and there are people who are not willing to do it. And the other aspect is the 12G that with a single cable you can make a transition to 4K easier and allows you to continue in the world that the broadcast engineer knows is that of the cable, the equipment and not in the IP world that is a little more unknown to the industry.

Other trends going forward are:
- Optimization and automation of repetitive workflows, which can be done with software and reduce costs
- Artificial intelligence is a fashionable topic that is becoming more and more every day. Cloud platforms with giant processing systems.
- Acquisition of content in the field and how it makes it reach the studio, while along the way metadata is already being put.
- Remote production without moving large numbers of people, especially for productions that do not leave much money to television channels or are directed to digital channels. It's a different concept.
- Artificial intelligence has some things that are already working. We are in the beginning and it will be more and more every day, but it is no longer a concept.

Some history
Excelencia en Comunicaciones y Tecnología was founded by Jorge Castañeda in 1993. Back then the technology was very different, he was a representative of brands who came with his suitcase full of catalogs to promote the technology in Mexico. Little by little he was getting more recognition and was able to integrate brands into his portfolio.

Initially it was distribution of brands, today they continue with an important portfolio and also do integration of projects. "It was a process that came naturally, we no longer sell just one box, we offer solutions. Even 10 years ago we founded an area called government, which develops professional audio and video projects for government sectors, including audio and video monitoring projects," recalled Marco Rabadán.
