Invest to improve

Important acquisitions in state-of-the-art equipment by several Latin American networks reflect a clear interest in improving the quality of national productions and transmissions.

In Mexico, Channel 22 installs a huge media server to automate its workflow and remove videotapes from its operation. Channel 11, meanwhile, uses a DNF Controls device to handle listings of salespeople on its Grass Valley server.

The National Television of Chile, Channel 13 Catholic University of Chile and Chilevisión, the three most important chains of the southern country made important purchases of cameras with Panasonic P2 solid state technology --in addition to other cameras and related products.

In Brazil, meanwhile, Visom Digital is sonic Solutions' "showcase" customer due to the complexity of the projects it carries out. An example, the DVD "Xuxa only for shorts", whose sixth version includes an impressive amount of interactive options, subtitles in several languages and the possibility of viewing in various screen formats.

Across the continent, investments are being made in state-of-the-art digital technology for audiovisual content production. While the level of investment does not reach what the industry had in the middle of the last decade, we are witnessing a significant reactivation. And a concern to improve the quality of our productions and transmissions.

The World Cup to be played in Germany next year will be an important factor in this revival. Although there are few companies that will need to deploy their teams to participate in the World Cup, this will affect many more.

Why? It's simple: go to the nearest TV store. Look at how TV vendors are preparing for the harvest every four years. The quality and size of the receivers are increasing. While on our continent there are not many people who can spend US $ 5,000 on a 48-inch device, the few who can buy them drag the demand of others.

After the World Cup people will expect to see the same quality of broadcast in the football matches of the local second division. And all television producers, from the one that broadcasts live from Germany, to the one that broadcasts the village livestock fair, must be able to offer quality in the image, good graphics and the complementary information that the viewer expects.

Only then can we keep our audience captive.
