Grass Valley's imaging product line covers the entire film production workflow. Within this framework, datacine's new products, Spectre FS and Spirit 4K, are aimed at digital post-production and digital cinematography applications.
Specter FS system is ideal for functioning as a core of a digital cinematography completion process. Supports a wide range of post-production tools such as panning and scanning, and format conversion. It also allows users to import, combine, shape and finalize materials shot on film, with a digital camera or generated with another type of post-production system. The Spectre FS is a device that replaces the functionality of a telecine but it is capable of serving various acquisition systems and offers multiple output formats.
The scanning module of the Spirit 4K datacine was also designed to support the growing trend of digital intermediate production. It offers 2K and 4K real-time scanning at 6-8 frames per second and supports 8, 16, 35 and 70mm films. The Spirit 4K uses an advanced high-resolution imaging subsystem designed by Eastman Kodak.
Thomson arrives at NAB 2003 with the much more mature and proven Viper FilmStream camera. The Viper FS was launched last year. During the second half of 2002, several film studios and production houses subjected this camera to rigorous field tests. Today it can be said that the Viper FS is part of a complete group of digital cinematography products (capable of moving and processing the immense files produced by the camera) and new releases are being made in Hollywood, London and Paris.
Thomson's digital cinematography products include acquisition devices (either the film scanner with the Spirit 4K module or the Viper FS camera), digital transmission interfaces, storage, completion tools (such as the Spectre FS), archiving and mastering devices, image restoration system (Shout), and color correction and grain reduction devices.
