Apple quiere patentar el término 'start-up'

MADRID, 29 Aug. (Portaltic/EP) -

Apple wants to patent the term 'start-up', which encompasses a wide range of products and services. The company filed the application in Australia last Tuesday. In the event that your registration is acknowledged, this term would be used by Apple in connection with retail store services, the maintenance, installation, and repair of computer equipment and other devices, educational services, and the design and development of hardware and software.

The Apple company and its eagerness to register names, brands and technology has no end. Patent registration allows companies to request the payment of royalties from those others who want to use the term. The Cupertino company is currently in several legal proceedings for patent infringement around the world, especially with its great rival Samsung.

However, the company wants to continue adding patents to its portfolio and this time has thought of a term that is currently widely used. According to Wired, Apple wants to get the patent for the term 'start-up'.

The application, which was filed by the Cupertino company, seeks to use the name in connection with services in retail stores, the maintenance, installation and repair of computer equipment and other devices, educational services – including classes, workshops and seminars – and the design and development of hardware and software.

The apple company already filed with the patent office the registration of the trademark in 2011 in China and the United States. During this period of processing, around dozens of complaints were stored that opposed the name of the brand. Therefore, the US company must respond to these objections on September 20.

One of the advantages that Apple has to obtain the term 'start-up' is that the trademark application was filed in Australia, the US and China, so it allows Apple to have an advantage over the rest of the brands since, according to the World Intellectual Property Organization, any company that registers a trademark in one of the countries in which the agreement was signed has priority.
