HTC reduced its profit by 83.1% in the second quarter

TAIPEI, 5 Jul. (EUROPA PRESS) -

The Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer HTC obtained in the first quarter of 2013 a net profit of 1,250 million Taiwanese dollars (32 million euros), which is 83.1 percent less than the 7,400 million Taiwanese dollars (191 million euros) that it earned in the same period of the previous year, according to the company in a statement.

Earnings per share after tax stood at 1.5 Taiwan dollars, compared to 8.9 Taiwan dollars a year ago, for approximately 831.23 million shares.

Likewise, the group's sales in the period between April and June reached 70,700 million Taiwanese dollars (1,828 million euros), 22.3 percent less than the 91,000 million Taiwanese dollars (2,353 million euros) it earned in the second quarter of 2012.

The company, which will publish the final results in about a month, has also indicated that its operating profit was around 1,050 million Taiwanese dollars (27 million euros), while the profit before tax stood at 1,520 million Taiwanese dollars (39 million euros).

HTC has advanced its results for the second quarter on the same day that one of its rivals in the smartphone market, the South Korean company Samsung Electronics, has announced that it expects to obtain an operating profit of 9.5 trillion won (6,448 million euros) at the end of the second quarter, 8.2 percent more than the result corresponding to the first three months of the year.

Likewise, Samsung Electronics reported that it expects to reach a turnover of 57 billion won (38,687 million euros), 7.8 percent above the figure for the first quarter.
