The present is HD. The immediate future is LED. And the Distant future brings us true, real, image projection in 3D, in the only possible way: in the air. Here we review some technological innovations for visual presentation, some existing already in the market and others that will surprise us, with security, in a few years.
Monitors for production or post-production
Wohler presents a line of high-quality monitors, suitable for technical evaluation of images in production or post. HDMon series offers screens between 17 and 24, equipped with a complete repertoire of connections of input and a physical resolution of 1920 x 1080, whose Most interesting feature consists of an angle of 170-degree vision, no contrast variations when exiting the front axle. This means that users who see the screen from the sides do not perceive important variations in the brightness and contrast values of the image.
System updates also deserve mention noise reduction, motion interpolation and adaptive motion processing, which allows to obtain images of extraordinary quality with any sign of input, regardless of its resolution and cadence (although the best performance is obtained with 1080i signals). By on the other hand, in terms of luminosity and contrast, the performance of THE LCD panels of HDMon-170 displays, HDMON-92WS and HDMon-260 equals that of a high CRT monitor quality.
Wohler reference monitors include connections Ethernet 100BaseT and RS-232, which allow calibration and control each screen from an ordinary PC via an interface Windows-based graphics, and eventually use probes and third-party software for maintenance.
Another interesting part of Wohler's monitor offering is form the sets of screens for rack installation of the MON series, especially suitable for studies or units mobile, which can benefit from its shallow and low depth energy consumption. One of the most interesting details of these monitor batteries is the possibility of pan each of the small screens for accommodate them to the most comfortable viewing angle for users.
Large screen displays
Lighthouse's R7-Enhanced Resolution (ER) LED panels,
present visual resolution and image quality
outstanding in the large screen market. With the same
advanced technology for digital processing than panels
R12-ER and R10-ER, the improved resolution of the R7-ER doubles the
effective resolution on the panel of the same size as its
16 mm counterpart.
The brightness of 5000 nits, its award-winning system for uniformity of the
M4 color, its slim shape and waterproof design make
particularly suitable the R7-ER panel for outdoors and is the
easier product to use in equipment rental, which must
ensure high image quality.
The company Creative Technology used them in its coverage of the Formula One Grand Prix in Bahrain. A total of eight Screens were placed in strategic positions around of the circuit, of which the three largest were R7-ER, they had a size of 50 m2 and were built to offer a 4 x 3 aspect ratio. Other companies, such as the European one JVR, use the panels during the European championships of football, such as Euro 2008.
HD Projectors
Christie's HD8K projectors feature DLP technology triple chip, are native HD (1920 x 1080), have lamps xenon and 8000 lumens (it is worth noting that the 8 k make reference to the brightness of the projector, but not to the resolution, an unwise decision on the part of the manufacturers, since this nomenclature can be the cause of confusions). They are ideal for conference rooms, houses of post-production, convention centers, meeting rooms, stages, cinemas and theatres. They belong to the line of Christie HD projectors, awarded with the award for the Best HD projectors on the world market in the latest edition of infoComm in the United States, the largest fair audiovisual technology professional.
During the second edition of TVMálaga, the Spanish Festival of Film, Fiction and Great Programs for Television, were used in the exhibition of the 11 telefilms that competed for the audience and critics' award.
The HD8K had already been used in the last edition of the Malaga Film Festival for high exhibitions definition in the Albéniz Cinemas, as well as in the Academy of Cinema of Spain for the premiere of different films. This range of projectors has been consolidated, due to their quality of image, as a reference in visualization in the sectors broadcast, film and business said Antonio Abad, director of Christie Ibérica. Today, every time more companies are betting on these Christie systems, for its resolution and luminosity.
3D projection
The National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology, from Japan, in conjunction with Burton Inc. and Hamamatsu Photonics, working on a technology to project images 3D in the air. The technology is capable of projecting 1000 points per second in a free space of 50 x 50 x 50 cm. To achieve this new level of projection, the institute and the others Companies involved are using a newly developed laser source (which has a repetition rate of 1 kHz, with an average power of 200 W) and have improved the 3D scanning as well as the optical system. The objective of the Technology is to provide the answer to a true 3D television, in the future.
