Ericsson's IPTV remote device allows you to control the TV and other connected equipment in the home in a single interface that links the Internet, live and on-demand television, computer and mobile phones.
The controller also features a second screen to preview content, explore program guides, surf the web, and chat with friends and family without a distraction window on the TV screen.
This unit is part of Ericsson's IPTV solutions and will be managed and delivered by each consumer's IPTV service providers. The device can also function as a portable TV in a home with WiFi connection.
"Ericsson's IPTV control redefines the category and puts greater control in the hands of our customers' subscribers. Initially, we will be focused on TV services and move forward to add applications such as enhanced video communications, remote healthcare and home surveillance," said Jan Wäreby, head of Ericsson's multimedia business unit.
According to Ericsson, the IPTV business will grow from 40 million to about 120 million subscriptions globally, over the next five years. Ericsson has signed more than 250 IPTV contracts worldwide covering complete solutions, integration and infrastructure projects.
