German broadcaster Südwestrundfunk (SWR) has completed the rollout of Telestream's Episode coding software, simplifying the transfer of files between its press offices around the world. Specifically, Episode was selected to provide cost-effective, high-quality standards conversion for the exchange of news content between agencies that are located in Mexico and Brazil, and the main office in Germany.
"Converting between different formats, frame rates and standards is a complex technical issue," said Barbara DeHart, Vice President of Marketing at Telestream. "Our coding software eliminates these complexities, giving users a conversion of high-quality standards at a fraction of the cost of conversion hardware."
Prior to the implementation of Telestream's coding software , SWR faced several challenges in converting standards and formats. The chain's previous workflow required converting tapes with conversion hardware and using the Reuters news feed. When Reuters migrated to a file-based service, SWR needed to find an equal workflow solution. Netorium, Telestream's distributor in the German market, responded to this technical query with Episode.
Software deployment was completed at SWR facilities in Mexico and Brazil in the last three months. Now, NTSC files, mainly from the Reuters news service, are converted to PAL-DV25 and MPEG-2 input and output formats for editing in local offices.
