Albavisión, a Latin American radio and TV media conglomerate, has been updating its ViBE encoders and other content distribution equipment with Grass Valley's new generation of ViBe EM streaming products, including innovative Mustang MPEG-4 SD compression technology.
Mustang is a digital signal processing (DSP) chip designed for standard and high-definition video compression needs. While consumer processors are typically used for these compressions, the Mustang chip-based ViBE encoder gives about 30 percent better compression. Mustang, the company says in a statement released during the last NAB fair, facilitates the launch of new services.
Albavisión serves 24 television stations and 14 radio stations in countries such as Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Paraguay and Peru, and has already begun the migration to MPEG-4 distribution.
