Intelsat Ltd., supplier company World's global commercial satellite services, announced that its Intelsat 11 satellite was successfully launched on October 5 to aboard Arianespace's Ariane 5 rocket.
The satellite, built by Orbital Sciences Corporation, it will operate from the position at 317oE, from where it will serve the main video programmers from Latin America and will host the the largest direct-to-home (DTH) platform in the region.
Its payload comprises 25 C-band and 18 Ku-band transponder units, which offer robust coverage for broadcast content on the American continent and Europe.
Once it enters service, the Intelsat 11 will replace intelsat 6B and 3R satellites, and when they complete their in-orbit tests, their customers will begin to transfer their services to it, which will offer them capacity with a useful life destined to be extended for the next 16 years.
David McGlade, Chief Executive Officer Intelsat, Ltd. said: "The Intelsat 11 is a satellite of utmost importance to our video customers. The increase of Regional DTH services is a great catalyst for the growth of the sector, and this orbital position represents one of the largest of the 27 DTH platforms we have implanted all over the world".
The entry into service of the Intelsat 11 is planned for the fourth quarter of 2007.
