In order to face the new challenges demanded by the implementation of digital television in Colombia, regional public television channels are obliged to make changes in their processes. Hence, the Telepacífico channel has begun an important technological renovation that includes updating equipment, reorganizing workstations and acquiring tools for the digital processing of the signal from the capture of images to the delivery of the signal to the satellite transmission system.
According to a recent report by John Carlos Hurtado, director of technique and system of Telepacífico, the relevant changes made during the first four months of this year include, among other novelties: emission from the new master's degree, which allowed the total digitization of the output and input of the audiovisual signal; installation and configuration of a server for centralized storage of edited material with a capacity of 16 terabyte; installation and configuration of four stations that allow the workflow of HD material in short times; installation and configuration of software for non-linear editing, state-of-the-art; configuration and commissioning of four cameras for SD/HD reporting, and launch of a mobile unit with state-of-the-art SD/HD cameras, Triax and camera control unit (CCU and RPC).
The channel also improved its information system and launched a new Web platform in which all netizens will have the possibility to interact with live programs, and know the programming and special transmissions. During this year Telepacífico has managed to recover the transmission network in 84% of stations on the air, thanks to the contributions of the resources of the National Television Commission (CNTV) for the maintenance of the network. The renovation of the satellite receivers was also initiated, by professionals, improving the reception of the signal in the different municipalities, and preventive maintenance continues to be practiced in all the regions covered by the service.
