Adtec Digital's DTA-3050 media gateways , edje-2100 DTV encoders and corresponding middleware were installed last month on a project of 140 IPTV channels in central London. Offered as one of the largest IPTV deployments in Europe, the project aggregates content from the Pan-European Satellite (DVB-S), UK Terrestrial Source (DVB-T) and analog internal sources. The project has been managed by it solutions provider SCC. The systems integration was supplied by Trimedia Broadcast Ltd.
"Companies are enthusiastic about IPTV solutions, said John Donovan, CEO of Trimedia. Even more prominent is the way employees are provided with the information they require in order to perform their duties. The hospital industry is acquiring IPTV. In the hospitality industry, it provides high-quality, free, pay-per-view content to its guests, within an interactive corporate-branded programming guide."
The DTA-3050 product, designed for the European market, delivers IPTV for approximately 1,500 euros, or US$1,800 per channel. "A version of the product is available with the dvb-T and DVB-S integrated tuners and the CACI interface (DTA-3150)," said Michael Bush, commercial engineer at Adtec International. It adds free programming and encrypted DVB services from six DVB multiplexers." The selected services are extracted to a Gigabit Ethernet interface as MPEG 2 simple programming transport streams. A remultiplexing option provides ASI output for DVB headends .
"The DTA-3050 is an integral part of any deployment of headers over IP for the cable, satellite, corporate and hospital markets," Bush said. It integrates with interactive middleware for IP junction box management." Astec's edje-2100 product is the real-time MPEG 2 distribution encoder with the ability to route MPEG transport streams over ASI or IP when deployed in conjunction with the DTA-3050.
