Televisa renewed its satellite coding system and signal distribution using the MPEG-4 AVC system, Tandberg Television. Tandberg's platform uses modulation DVB-8PSK and thanks to the use of AVC technology, Televisa will be able to simultaneously deliver HD and SD content to 258 stations affiliates in Mexico, in addition to generating feeds for 30 channels of its Pay-TV operations.
The main attraction of the contribution platform of Tandberg is the improvement in bandwidth usage, thanks to the efficiency intrinsic to the use of MPEG-4 codecs . In the in the case of Televisa, it was possible to maintain a level of quality equivalent to that of the MPEG-2-based system that had been in use, but with a reduction of the bandwidth consumed, to something less than half.
The solution installed by Televisa is based on Tandberg Director, a control solution for distribution of digital content that supports conditional access with high security levels, and makes it easier to implement interactive monitoring of the receiver network. Director allows remotely control Tandberg HD or SD receivers and including diagnostics and updating the software of the receiving equipment using the same satellite network.
Additionally, Tandberg delivered to Televisa a system of SLR multiplexing that enables statistical management of the available bandwidth, to optimize in real time the allocation of each channel and ensure the transport of more channels with acceptable quality levels. The system is complements with the use of Prekor, a pre-correction platform of signals that allows to reduce the error rate in the transponders through signal linearization processes Encoded. In this way, the Tandberg platform allows ensure significant improvements in the quality of reception, while the width requirements of band.
