Front Porch Digital acquired Samma Systems, a company specialized in preservation of videotapes and videotape systems migration to digital files.
The acquisition of Samma was strategically planned with the in order to provide broadcasters with archiving facilities, and other content owners, a completely new system able to access and do so all stored content available in a cost-effective form.
Front Porch has more than 280 facilities in 55 countries. Herself estimates that there are 6 billion cassettes worldwide, one thousand millions of which include historical content important, representing more than 7000 petabytes of data stored only on videotapes. It is estimated that 5% of this Content is lost by deterioration each year, but the cost of digitizing it makes this operation almost forbidden.
