The National Television Commission (CNTV) will deliver a new national licence for broadcast free-to-air television, for a commercial television channel, in the bidding process which must be awarded in May 2009.
The decision was the result of the reports presented by investment banks Estructuras en Finanzas and Correaval-CGI, which analyzed the possibilities of the television and the different economic variables that are they wait in the country.
The operator will be chosen by means of a public auction (hidden price) and you will have to guarantee the coverage of municipalities with a population of 20,000 or more inhabitants of the 2005 census projected to June 2008, on analogue television.
The new dealer will be able to use their own network or sign agreements with Radio Televisión Nacional de Colombia, RTVC, or the private channels, RCN and Caracol, to use their networks of transmission.
In relation to extensions to the current channels private, RCN and Caracol, the Board of Directors of the CNTV announced which will be signed before 10 January next year and which they will have to pay 189,000 million pesos, (about 82 million of dollars), and 7.58 per cent of gross revenue during the ten years that the concession lasts.
