Colombia. The Communications Regulation Commission, CRC, through its Audiovisual Content Session, issued three sanctions against the same number of channels in proceedings for non-compliance with content broadcasting standards.
The first is against Channel One, for not complying with Article 47 of Law 1098 of 2006 – Code of Childhood and Adolescence, which prohibits the broadcast of advertising of alcoholic beverages during family hours.
In accordance with this regulation and article 16.5.7.4. of Resolution CRC 5050 of 2016, the indirect advertising of these drinks is restricted at times aimed at minors, a rule that was violated by Sociedad Plural Comunicaciones S.A.S., operator of Canal Uno.
With the second, the sanctioned is the regional channel Telecafé, also for broadcasting advertising for alcoholic beverages during family hours.
And the third is against RCN Televisión S.A, after identifying that the channel had not broadcast national cinematographic works during the years 2022 and 2023, in breach of the provisions of article 16.4.8.3 of Resolution CRC 5050 of 2016 (in force at the time of the events), which requires broadcasting at least 10% of national cinema with respect to the total foreign productions transmitted.
In the first two cases, the sanction is a warning, while in the third, the channel must pay a fine.
"The CRC's Audiovisual Content Session reaffirms with this decision its institutional commitment to enforce the rules that protect the rights of audiences and promote a more diverse, balanced and quality television. Open television plays an essential role in the construction of cultural identity and in the dissemination of content that reflects the diversity of our country. This is not simply a sanction, but a wake-up call to operators to responsibly assume their duty to comply with a regulation designed to protect viewers and ensure access to programming representative of Colombian society," said the Commissioners of the Session of the Audiovisual Content Commission of the CRC.
