Latin America. Sony announced the latest addition to the CineAlta lineup, the Mini Extension System for VENICE (CBK-3621XS), a new exclusive accessory for the award-winning Venice 2 digital cinema camera.
This new extension system comes equipped with the 8K sensor for the VENICE 2 camera in a substantially smaller size than the current VENICE 2 extension system. It's the size of an average smartphone and is about 70% smaller than the current system. The Mini Extension System for VENICE is designed to give filmmakers greater creative freedom. Its ultra-compact design makes it ideal for extreme action shots and handheld.
"I love the size of the Mini extension system for VENICE," says cinematographer Claudio Miranda ASC, one of the first people in the world to have used the system. "I like it because it can be located anywhere, it's like a Formula One. You get the full resolution of a real cinema camera. It's great to be able to have flexibility without compromising image quality," he added.
Building on the success of the current extension system, the new Mini extension system for VENICE provides greater flexibility without affecting image quality. The Mini Extension System features a custom insertable ND cartridge system, with nine (9) Neutral Density (ND) glass filters including a transparent ND filter specially developed to work seamlessly with Sony's VENICE 2 systems while maintaining the compact size.
The Mini extension system for VENICE also offers design improvements for easy installation and handling. For example, the connection cable between the Mini extension system for VENICE and the VENICE 2 camera structure is slim and flexible, allowing it to be easily handled and removed. In addition, it has installation points for easy accessory placement.
For example, multiple units of the Mini Extension System for VENICE can be used in parallel to generate stereoscopic images and recreate the way the human eye sees, with an interaxial distance of 64mm matching the distance between the eyes (average distance between human pupils). The Mini Extension System for VENICE can also be used to create VR content and backgrounds with serial special effects.
Since its launch, Sony's iconic VENICE digital cinema camera has been widely adopted by filmmakers around the world in blockbusters such as Top Gun: Maverick, Avatar: The Way of Water and, most recently, in Nickel Boys, The Fire Inside and A Complete Stranger.
