Peru. The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) reports that during 2024, 919 authorizations and renewals of broadcasting services were granted. This advance ensures that more Peruvians can enjoy diverse programming that includes entertainment, information, education and culture, thus promoting inclusion and social development in the different regions of the country.
Of the 919 authorizations and renewals, 794 correspond to radio services and 125 to television services. Of the total, 71% of the authorizations are for commercial purposes, 27% for education and 0.76% for community purposes.
In addition, for the first time, 42 districts with about 93,000 inhabitants have access to radio service in the FM band, while 3 districts have obtained for the first time television service in the VHF band, which benefits approximately 10,000 people.
"Access to radio and television services not only connects people with their environment, but also fosters education, culture and the strengthening of our communities. At the MTC we are committed to ensuring that more Peruvians, especially in rural areas, can access more communication services," said the Deputy Minister of Communications, Carla Paola Sosa Vela.
The regions with the highest number of authorizations and renewals were Cajamarca (69), Cusco (67), Puno (66), Ancash (65) and Lima (64), demonstrating the MTC's decentralized focus on expanding the coverage of essential broadcasting services.
In this way, the MTC, through the General Directorate of Telecommunications Authorizations (DGAT), reaffirms its commitment to the promotion of broadcasting services as essential tools for development and national integration.
