Peru. The Ministry of Transport and Communications of Peru held the first public tender of 2024 to grant broadcasting frequencies. In this first call, 37 frequencies were awarded, distributed between 35 for the FM broadcasting service and 2 for medium wave (OM) in 14 locations in the country.
Of the frequencies awarded, 22 will be used for commercial purposes, 14 for educational purposes and one for community purposes, with a total of bids reaching S/1,757,413. This distribution will allow for greater diversity in radio station programming, covering news, entertainment and cultural content in various regions.
In this way, localities considered as of preferential social interest such as Chuquibambilla (Apurimac), San Pablo – Chilete – San Bernardino – San Luis Grande (Cajamarca), Otuzco (La Libertad), Mañazo (Puno); as well as localities considered as rural areas such as Huachis (Ancash), Irrigación San Camilo (Arequipa) and Nueva Arequipa (Madre de Dios), will have a greater diversity of radio stations in modulated frequency (FM).
In addition, new FM stations will be added in Quillabamba (Cusco), Puno (Puno), Tocache – Uchiza (San Martín), Huari – Huantar – San Marcos (Áncash) and Camaná (Arequipa). Morropón (Piura) and Yunguyo-Juli (Puno) will also see an increase in the number of stations offering service in OM, popularly known as amplitude modulated or AM.
"Our commitment to programming diversity and equitable access to broadcasting remains a priority. We will continue to organize public tenders to grant authorizations in the broadcasting service, focusing especially on rural and social interest locations," said the Deputy Minister of Communications, Carla Sosa Vela.
