Televisa transforms streaming ecosystem with Synamedia

Televisa transforma ecosistema de transmisión con Synamedia

Mexico. Televisa has chosen Synamedia as its preferred partner for a complete review of its broadcast distribution. Televisa is leveraging Synamedia's Media Edge Gateway (MEG) and PowerVu across its nationwide network, which spans 180 stations across the country, to increase the agility of video distribution, processing and delivery.

Televisa needed a technology partner with expertise and innovative solutions to support its operational transformation. By choosing Synamedia's MEG, Televisa halved its reliance on hardware, which not only brought economic benefits, but also the modern technologies needed to future-proof its operations.

During the evaluation phase, Televisa used dozens of MEGs as part of its strategy to broadcast the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™. Synamedia played the crucial role of managing backup channels and FPS (Video Frames Per Second) conversion. The success of this project contributed to Televisa's final decision to select Synamedia as its new software provider.

"Synamedia has not only provided us with a unique solution that exists nowhere else in the world, but has also demonstrated exactly what we were looking for in a provider: commitment to both innovation and our long-term success," said William Aguirre, General Director of Satellite Operations at Televisa.

"Our in-house team engaged Siselectron, our hardware vendor, to provide a powerful SR1 device (2nd Gen AMD EPYC processor) and work on customization to our specific needs. From there, we knew we wanted software and hardware partners that were agile enough to meet our present and future needs. Synamedia signed up and delivered quickly, has been a critical part of the team, and has already demonstrated positive results. We are delighted with our choice," he added.

Synamedia's MEG is a flexible software-defined receiver with powerful edge processing features—such as transcoding, regionalization, and time-delay—across satellite, CDN, and IP networks. The combination of Synamedia's PowerVu distribution platform and MEG provides Televisa with secure content distribution, centralized control, and state-of-the-art processing to tailor content handovers to the needs of affiliates and MVPDs. For Televisa, MEG helps ensure content is distributed securely thanks to Synamedia's PowerVu conditional access.

Earlier this month, one of Televisa's largest stations went live with Synamedia MEG and PowerVu in the city of Guadalajara. The project will continue to be implemented until the summer of 2024 and in stages over the next two years, to cover all seasons in Mexico.
