The Broadcasting Standards Commission is a statutory body for regulating industry standards and the fair exercise of broadcasting. It is one of the only organisations moving under a regulatory framework in the UK covering both terrestrial and satellite television and radio. This includes text and cable and digital services. The Commission has three objectives, which were defined when the Commission was established in 1996, which are:
- Produce codes of conduct and ethics
- Consider and adjudicate claims and complaints
- Monitor, research and report on how industry standards are applied
