The Mexican Institute of Cinematography, IMCINE, was created on March 25, 1983 and is the federal entity dependent on the National Council for Culture and the Arts in charge of promoting and coordinating the film production of the public sector of Mexican cinema.
Its objectives are as follows:
- Promote and encourage the production of audiovisuals, support the development of Mexican cinema and promote the dissemination of the artistic and cultural values of the country.
- Encourage the writing and treatment of scripts, as well as the development of film projects.
- Invest the fiscal resources available for film co-production.
- Expand the distribution and exhibition of film productions made with fiscal resources.
- Spread Mexican cinema abroad and in Mexico.
- Promote the design, execution and periodic updating of an institutional program of the Federal Government for the promotion of the national film industry, as well as the filming of foreign cinema in Mexico.
