Non-linear environments for subtitling

One of the houses with the most experience in the development of solutions for subtitling is Evertz. This company recently introduced two of its new products.

The 8085 is a broadcast-quality Digital Subtitle Encoder that generates 21-line subtitle information directly into the digital stream. The 8085 allows data to be encoded across all subtitling and text channels in both field 1 and 2 of the video. You can also encode Extended Data Service packets in field 2, compatible with other services such as TSID, station name, identification, program name, rating, time remaining on air, and content evaluations (compatible with V-Chip decoders).

8085 encoders are highly configurable to ensure maximum compatibility with a wide variety of applications and programming packages. Encoders can be configured to individually manipulate each data stream independently of the others. The 8084s are also compatible with various automation and traffic programs such as the Enterprise BMS Traffic System.

The incorporation of diversion circuits, error checking systems and an optional redundant power supply ensures proper operation. An analog monitor visibly displays the subtitles of any of the data channels, including many types of XDS packets such as V-Chip content evaluations.

Characteristics:

- Publicidad -

Encodes directly to a digital stream of component video (4:2:2), whether 525 or 625 lines.

It can be added to previously titled programs, subtitles, text, web links, or Extended Data Service information.

Possibility to insert text from articles archived in the 8084 by the titling software. Articles can be programmed according to the requirements of the subtitler.

Possibility for the Extended Data Service to encode program information including content evaluations of the V-Chip.

V-Chip lock codes are selectable from the front dashboard. There is access to all four V-Chip rating systems.

Individual subtitles and text data streams can be removed from the input video.

The "monitor" mode allows you to directly read the subtitle data of line 21 of the digital stream and the performance on the RS-232 serial port.

- Publicidad -

An output of SMPTE 269M performance information.

A front board, or GPI-activated deflection circuit mode, is provided along with a deflection circuit for power failure protection, which allows the input video to pass through the 8084 unprocessed.

You can put encoded subtitles on lines other than line 21 for specialized applications.

Three serial ports allow simultaneous control of the 8084 from three computers, for applications such as home titling, XDS insertion and more.

It incorporates a modem interface for real-time remote subtitling. A built-in test message inserts data into all 9 information channels.

Ability to compensate for the component effect of the input stream to encoders that add configuration to line 21.

- Publicidad -

Real-time verification of code data via an analog composite monitoring encoder. Decoded subtitles, texts, XDS or V-Chip data are inserted as open subtitles into the analog video output.

The composite decoder supports these XDS packet types: Station or network name, identification letters, program name, program length, airtime, program type, program description, and content evaluation.

The VBI's bridging feature allows you to copy subtitles from one video source to another using two 8084 units.

The correction of the EDH package ensures the integrity of the SDI video to the download equipment.

It supports a lot of subtitling programming including the following:

The Captioning Center - CCSQ y CCMS, Captions Inc. - Smart Encoder V 1.0b, Evertz ProCAP, Cheetah Systems - Captivator Offline Edit Version 2.1, Captivator Offline PostCAP 2.1, VITAC PostCAP 2.1, Computer Prompting and Captioning Co. - CPC-700 Version 6.20, National Captioning Institute - Text Encoding and Display System (TED) version 1.7, Autograph Systems - View level XDS controller, Rapid Caption.

Evertz 8084AD Digital and Analog Video Subtitle Encoder

The 8084AD is a broadcast-quality Subtitle Encoder that generates 21-line subtitle information, directly to analog and digital material. 8084ADs allow data to be encoded across all subtitling and text channels in both field 1 and 2 of the video. You can also encode Extended Data Service packets in field 2, compatible with other services such as TSID, station name, identification, program name, rating, time remaining on air, and content evaluations (compatible with V-Chip decoders).

8084AD encoders are highly configurable to ensure maximum compatibility with a wide variety of applications and programming packages. Encoders can be configured to individually manipulate each data stream independently of the others. The 8084AD is also compatible with various automation and traffic programs such as the Enterprise BMS Traffic System.

The incorporation of diversion circuits in both video paths, error checking systems and an optional redundant power supply, ensures proper operation. A separate analog monitor visibly displays the subtitles of any of the data channels, including many types of XDS packets such as V-Chip content evaluations.

Encodes directly to a digital stream of component video (4:2:2), whether 525 or 625 lines.

Upstream subtitles are selectable from analog or digital video material.

It can be added to previously titled programs, subtitles, text, web links, or Extended Data Service information.

Individual subtitles and text data streams can be passed, modified, or deleted from the input video.

Possibility to insert text from articles archived in the 8084AD by the titling software.

Possibility for the Extended Data Service to encode program information including content evaluations of the V-Chip.

The V-Chip lock codes are selectable from the front dashboard menus. There is access to all four V-Chip rating systems.

The predefined evaluation of the V-Chip is selectable after the pause.

The deflection circuits can be activated by the GPI, from the front dashboard or automatically so that the input video passes through the raw unit.

Three RS-232/422 serial ports allow simultaneous control of the 8084AD from three computers, for applications such as home titration, XDS insertion and more.

It incorporates a modem interface for real-time remote subtitling. Allows an optional second internal modem.

Separate monitoring analog composite decoders for each video path that provide real-time verification of encoded data. Decoded subtitles, texts, XDS or V-Chip data are inserted as open subtitles into the analog video output.

Composite decoders support these XDS packet types: Station or network name, identification letters, program name, program length, airtime, program type, program description, and content evaluation.
