The Art of Processing

RenderDrive is one of the alternatives that a graphic content developer has for the processing of their files.

Ray tracing is a type of rendering based on the physical processes that occur in the real world. Images are generated by calculating the path that light follows through a scene or inside the camera and each pixel is produced by determining the behavior of a number of rays from different points of view over the area covered by it. Therefore, the images processed by this method contain a high level of photorealism and excellent quality.

The ray tracing graphics processing chip was developed to obtain photo-quality images. Unlike other graphics processing chips that use simple painting algorithms to generate the graphics, ART's AR250 and AR 350 models use the physical ray tracing algorithm to generate images of amazing quality. The AR 350 features a memory manager for local DRAM access, an on-chip data cache to reduce the required bandwidth, and two processing cores. Each of them performs the operations of the algorithm to establish geometry and shading.

Putting this processing method into practice is, in computational terms, very expensive. So with current applications for it running on conventional processors for general purposes, rendering is a time-consuming task.

For the creation of graphs, the following characteristics should be considered:

Physical accuracy

The RenderDrive system precisely obeys the physical laws of light, reflection, refraction, shadows and lens properties. Avoid the additional work generated by shadow mapping tasks, reflections and subsequent processes for the creation of lens effects.

Lights and shadows

The proper handling of these elements in the image is fundamental for the construction of images surrounded by reality, even if they are designed to imitate reality or to create new worlds. The lights of this system are adjustable in size to convert them into areas of light that manage to behave as natural sources that allow the creation of soft shadows.

Camera and lens reflections

In film and photography, the camera plays a fundamental role in the creation of images. Control over focal length, aperture, lens selection and shutter speed offer a wide range of parameters on which a good degree of creativity can be sustained.

RenderDrive

Render Drive uses processors specially designed to provide raw performance that increases the speed of the ray tracing process. It also improves efficiency by valuing each frame by the depth of its lightning requirements. It is capable of producing images much faster than dedicated software with quality and realism features that go beyond what can be achieved with another processing system, while imitating the way light behaves in the real world. while providing a simple user interface and powerful processing performance.

Recreate this set of tools with great precision within your three-dimensional application. Camera parameters have the same effects on the depth of field and blurry aspect of motion in the image as they do in the real world. The reflections produced by light in its path through a lens (flares) can be generated quickly in the camera by means of values indicated within the scene, according to the parameters of behavior in reality.

It has a TCP / IP Fast Ethernet network interface so that the device can be shared between users and with the RenderMan interface that provides a standard to receive through you the descriptions of the scenes and images that are going to be processed and perform work with any hardware platform, as it is a standalone application.

Solutions

Advanced Rendering Technologies offers solutions for 3D processing work developed by cinematographers, animators and video game developers.

Within the set of tools offered is RenderPipe, an application available in renderPipe MAX versions for users of 3D Studio MAX and VIZ, RenderPipe RIB, for use with any application that can create RenderMan information, standard developed by Pixar Inc, as a language for describing scenes in three dimensions, and RenderPipe for Maya. RenderPipe is the software that exists on the workstation as a plug-in that communicates with RenderDrive over the computer network. This application can be used in as many stations as you want without having to pay licensing for each of them.

RenderDrive can be used by most three-dimensional applications such as Alias/Wavefront Maya via the MtoR plug-in, 3D Studio Max, Avid Softimage 3D via the SoftMan plug-in , Gestel Solid Thinking and all RenderMan compatible applications such as Side Effects Houdini.
