Televisa modernizes the Azteca stadium

The giant Mexican media conglomerate, Televisa, installed a state-of-the-art Harris solution, in the area of networks and microwaves, in the most important sports construction in this country.

Contrary to the North American trend of setting up large transmission systems in sports centers, in Latin America sports clubs have tight portfolios that hardly allow them to invest in technology for their facilities.

Therefore, it is not strange that these solutions are applied in other areas. In fact, apart from the case of the Azteca stadium, there are two solutions already installed in the region, one of them in Mexico with DGTVE, and another with TVJ in Jamaica.

The versatility of this solution is also partly due to the modular construction approach, which offers greater scalability to grow the video "ecosystem" smoothly due to its compatibility with different contribution and, or, distribution applications.

This ability to work with various technologies allows operators to improve their infrastructure, while becoming the best way to migrate to new digital and content applications.

In this regard, Villegas adds that Truepoint also manages to reduce ownership costs thanks to the use of multiple frequencies and the support of various applications of the common platforms. Truepoint deploys a service of between 4 and 180 Mbps at frequencies ranging from 6 to 38 GHz. In addition, service providers can fully manage the deployment of Truepoint remotely thanks to SNMP-based management.

Some of the essential advantages of NetVx are that it allows to handle in a single package the entire subject of audio, video, data, control, monitoring, IP, MPEG and ATM in a flexible and scalable way, which also allows to easily establish redundant systems to guarantee the continuous operation of the network.

The importance of this system becomes clear when we remember the changes that digital television will bring to the market, such as the transport of audio, video and data in a single frame.

Among the advantages that DTV will bring is to reduce operating costs, more if we take into account that most existing STL systems are analog, not upgradeable to DTV, and that all work on microwave radio systems.

A market perspective
"You might think that with the adoption of DTV, the demand for transmitters was going to change drastically from analog to digital, but despite that analog demand is as strong as ever, thanks in part to new concessions and technology replacement, "you're sure." Villegas affirms, while stressing that sales in the region (CALA) have been quite strong in the last four years and have not shown any trend towards the decrease in consumption.

Mexico is already doing the commercial broadcasting of DTV with a significant participation of Harris, while Argentina, Colombia and Guatemala carry out experimental transmissions – in Argentina it has really been for a long time. Brazil, on the other hand, has barely adopted DTV

Villegas adds that Harris' strategy is simple, "not only for transmitters but for our entire portfolio, and is to give our clients the best technology and service available in the world, helping them protect their investment and allowing them to maximize the growth of their businesses."
