Preparation of the second international digital TV seminar progresses

Convened by TV and Video for September 23 and 24 in Bogotá, this year there will be more conferences, more exhibitors and new work topics.

Latin America has already taken on the challenge of migrating its operations to digital television. Mexico, Brazil, Uruguay, Honduras, Colombia and Peru have already taken the first step with the choice of the standard they will follow, and other countries in the region are about to announce their decisions. It is in this scenario – in which it is time to start acting – that the second version of the Seminar "Digital Television Without Stress" organized by TV and Video will be developed for September 23 and 24 in Bogotá, Colombia.

The academic program and the commercial exhibition of the seminar will be focused on the new reality of the industry. Television companies in Latin America must begin to transform their production and post-production models with a view to what will be the digital television of the future and, in that way, nothing better than starting from the basics: learning from the experiences of those who have already gone through this process.

Academic program

Transferring theory into practice and landing technical and technological concepts to the Latin American reality are the premises of the academic component of the seminar. Therefore, on the first day of the meeting, topics will be addressed that will allow attendees to be placed in context in front of the digital television panorama, among them: state of the industry, digital television in Colombia, extended television, analog blackout, and an HD migration dashboard.

On the second day the talks are divided into two areas, and attendees will have the opportunity to choose according to their interest which ones to attend: one aimed at television operations, and the other focused on the production and post-production of programs. In the operations space, topics such as: engineering practices, production for three screens, HD image construction, contribution and transmission, storage and backup and studio design will be discussed.

For its part, the track focused on post-production will talk about storage for post-production, digital intermediate, surround audio management, workflows for multiple distribution channels, post-production for three screens and post-production of independent projects.

The speakers

A group of top-level international experts will be in charge of the conferences. In the group of those who have already confirmed their presence are Roberto Lauro and Larry Thorpe. Lauro was until a few weeks ago representative of the DVB Consortium for Latin America. In 2008 he worked on the implementation of a single frequency network on the island of Sardinia. Today it continues to work on the deployment of digital television – under the DVB-T standard – in other regions of Italy, a country with a geography similar to that of any Andean country.

Larry Thorpe, meanwhile, born in Ireland, studied electronic engineering and since his work at RCA, Sony and Canon has contributed to the development of CCD sensors and multi-format cameras. In 2002, Larry Thorpe won the NAB Engineering Award (for Television), one of several distinctions he has received.

Commercial sample

Practically all the exhibitors present in the 2008 version repeat on this occasion. But in addition – attracted by the success of last year's seminar – new companies have reserved their spaces, thus doubling the exhibition space.

Exhibiting firms will have the opportunity to conduct demonstration workshops and product applications, and interact with industry entrepreneurs who will be interested in acquiring new equipment and technologies to meet the digital challenge.

The seminar is backed by Platinum sponsors such as Avid, Harris, Seel and Sony, and Gold sponsors such as Inviso and Megatrax.
