Colombia. The ICT Minister, Mauricio Lizcano, signed the resolutions that allow the winners of the 5G auction to start deploying the networks throughout Colombia. With this, the four operators are enabled to begin the work that will bring this technology.
These resolutions notify each winning operator of the auction held on December 20 of last year, that they have the permission to use the spectrum to bring 5G to Colombia. The four winning operators that day were Claro, Wom, the Movistar-Tigo Temporary Union and Telecall, a Brazilian operator that arrives in the country thanks to this process. Each operator won an 80 MHz block in the 3,500 MHz band, in which the new connectivity technology will be deployed.
The Ministry of ICT ratified its commitment to make Colombia a Digital Power, advancing with connectivity and technology to change lives. After this signing, operators will begin to deploy the networks through which Colombians will enjoy 5G, a technology that will be available from the middle of this year in some areas of the country, and that will gradually reach all of Colombia.
With these resolutions, the deadlines defined in the schedules for the deployment of 5G networks in the country continue to be met.
