Argentina. With the presence of representatives of Enacom, on February 21, the headquarters of the radio station La Voz de Olaroz was inaugurated, an indigenous radio station with a frequency granted and operational from the acquisition of equipment and the building work financed through Fomeca resources.
The headquarters is located 280 kilometers from San Salvador de Jujuy, and has a radio power that allows reaching adjacent locations, such as Susques, where 5 live. 000 inhabitants.
"We celebrate the achievement of the indigenous community of Olaroz Chico that has been able to realize the desire to turn on its own radio, within the framework of the right to communication and the plurality of voices. It is very important to highlight that the factor of the scarce Internet connectivity that exists in the area makes this radio a fundamental element regarding the dissemination of local identity in the audiences of the same locality and the surrounding areas, "said María Sucarrat of Enacom.
The celebration coincided with the last day of carnival, so the ceremony consisted of the Challa of the radio (rite of thanks), the words of Cacique Mario Gerónimo and the ribbon cutting in the building. Radio is a fundamental element for the dissemination of local identity, plurality of voices and self-generated content by the audiences of the Jujuy localities.
Fomeca is the competitive fund that allows, through subsidies, to finance and accompany audiovisual communication services projects promoted by non-profit organizations and Indigenous Peoples throughout the country.
