Colombia. The advance call is part of the agreement signed between MinCiencias and the CRC that aims to promote the execution of research, technological development and innovation projects, which allow improving, promoting, enhancing and strengthening the ICT, postal and audiovisual content sectors in Colombia, through the financing of projects with $5,103 million pesos (about US$1.2 million).
The proposals presented are led by universities from different areas of the country and will allow, through the application of knowledge and state-of-the-art technologies, to provide solutions to problems in the ICT, postal and audiovisual sectors.
In total, 25 projects were presented for the two defined modalities: i) Research to expand the frontier of knowledge in regulatory matters for the ICT, postal and audiovisual content sectors and ii) Emerging Technologies Applied to Regulatory Improvement in Audiovisual Content.
After filling the stage of review of requirements and evaluation, 15 proposals formed the bank of eligible projects of which, 9 projects were selected in the first instance to be developed.
Finally, thanks to an additional contribution of $565 million made by MinCiencias, the financing of two more projects was approved, for a total of 11 projects to be co-financed within the framework of the call.
The topics to be developed by the research teams include work with communities in remote regions of the country that integrate diverse population groups, with the purpose of publicizing the consumption profiles of telecommunications services and audiovisual content (active participation of indigenous communities, memory of migrant populations, analysis of the audiovisual consumption of rural populations, among others), which allows finding innovative solutions to the needs of the ICT, postal and audiovisual content sectors in the country.
"Thanks to the success of the call and the number of viable projects that make up the bank of eligible, we exceeded the financing goal and, with the additional contribution of MinCiencias, we will support the development of 11 projects in total, consolidating this commitment of the CRC to continue promoting the regulatory improvement approach, increasingly incorporating innovation into our regulation, benefiting the ICT, Postal and Audiovisual Content sectors with the development of solutions based on emerging technologies and generation of new sectoral knowledge for intelligent regulation." Paola Bonilla Castaño, Commissioner and Executive Director of the CRC, explained.
Currently the chosen projects are in the stage of signing the contracts after which it is expected to begin their execution in the month of July 2022.
