Olympic medalists in intercom

The last Olympic Games tested the latest developments for television broadcasts, especially in communication systems.

ClearCom, another major supplier of intercom, for its part, was responsible for providing the China Central Television a new intercom network between its new and old buildings. This work was based on on the Eclipse platform and proved its effectiveness by testing its ability to use an E1 digital line in the case of that the fiber system is disconnected.

In addition, the company provided communications to the Centre's local and external partners Beijing International Broadcasting (IBC) English), production and coordination in the new building of CCTV, nine mobiles for the coverage of Beijing games TV, a truck for Shanghai TV and voice over IP communications connected with old CCTV master controls.

ClearCom's Olympic experience dates back to Atlanta 1996 where they provided five 4000 networked systems for the International Transmission Center and three production galleries A, B and C, in addition to the communication systems in the competition scenarios with four beltpacks for the transmitter local, in a contract with Panasonic.

In Sydney 2000 they participated in the opening ceremonies and closing with local contractor The PA People. There used an Eclipse-based system with local panels, mainly Series I, and analog radio systems through of FOR-22 radio interfaces.

Chris Dodds, director of The P.A. People in Sydney, has working hand in hand with ClearCom in the provisioning of communications equipment at the Sydney and Athens ceremonies, the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne and the Asian. We have two Eclipse Omega platforms, two of the E32 series, keystations, and two Freespeak 10 systems. Our teams are almost always composed of more than 2 thousand Motorola radios and accessories, 50 duplex radio units, cameras CCTV and recording, communications of shared line and a complete network of technologies for this type of events.

History repeated itself again in Athens 2004 where The P.A. People was in charge of providing intercom for opening and closing events.

Voice over IP communications

The challenges involved in communicating people long-term distances and the need to optimize existing resources have motivated the introduction of voice over IP technologies for sending digital signals.

Riedel's Connect IP provides high audio quality over IP for intercom systems. The 19/1UR unit allows matrix-to-array and array-to-panel connection of control as well as the distribution of audio lines over IP. The interface converts an AES3 stream into IP compressed data and vice versa. Connect IP can be configured as needed bandwidth-specific, ensuring a combination of quality audio and low network traffic. Drive supports remote control in all its functions through panels of control.

New 108 G2 VOIP card converts eight voip ports Artist matrix in a compressed stream of IP and vice versa. For ensure excellent audio quality, a user can choose between a high-quality mode with a bandwidth of 6 kHz and a transmission rate of less than 80 kBit/s, or a mode of low traffic with a bandwidth of 4 kHz and a speed of transmission of less than 40 kBit/s per channel. This card is communicates with any other located in an Artist system, by for example, with mobile radiocommunication systems for private applications or with the new Connect IPx8 interface of Riedel.

Connect IPx8 is a 19/1UR unit that converts eight intercom ports on IP data and vice versa. The Device is available in three versions, offering different interface options on the back of the unit. Cat5 and coaxial versions allow the connection of panels and other AES signals, while the AIO version is ideal for connection of four contacts and other analog sources. Can seamlessly connect up to eight standard control panels from Artist1000, 2000, or 3000 with all the functions of a matrix Artist over an IP network.

Clear-Com has also involved this IP technology for advance communication solutions for transmitters. SOFT-VoICE, for example, is a virtual panel for the matrix of the Eclipse system that connects to the intercom array over an IP network or the Internet.

VoICE2 is a digital line between Eclipse systems that can be networked to act as a complex of communication using this IP interface. Finally, the Concert 1.0 application based on native IP technology- provides similar matrix and partyline communications working with high audio quality. This solution works on a network infrastructure and operates on a browser/PC, delivering crisp, block-free sound over a connection standard or Internet between local and remote users.

From IFB to GSM

The IFB (Interruptible Feedback) system -used in television and radio- has allowed for years the communication by cable between actors or staff in the work area and technicians or broadcast directors, by means of a headset device that more modern technologies such as mobile phones preceded.

In this sense, and in accordance with the advances of the industry, the Intercom companies have introduced within their portfolio of services different equipment and accessories that link the traditional IFB with mobile networks.

Riedel has an option for your hybrid phone Connect Solo that allows you to connect it with GSM mobile networks. In this way communications can be maintained through GSM and, for example, a truck in the work area would not need a ground line or fixed at the location.

ClearCom customers can also use their phones mobile phones to call within an intercom system based on Elipse and DTMF, select your IFB audio signal and talk back to the studio. The Eclipse system has the innovation from decoding DTMF dial tones to controls in the Eclipse management system.
