International. ChyronHego announced the appointment of Marco Lopez as CEO, effective January 8, 2018. Former President and CEO Johan Apel will continue to serve the company as Executive Chairman of the Board with an emphasis on market leadership in sports solutions. Turning his attention to the broadcasting industry, Lopez joins ChyronHego from Grass Valley, where he most recently served as president.
"In recent years, ChyronHego has made extraordinary strides in the world of sports, for example, we are now the clear industry leader in sports and media tracking/analytics solutions within the stadium," said Apel. "With the start of 2018, our investment in these sports solutions, such as the TRACAB tracking system, will provide fantastic opportunities for our customers by enabling them to achieve greater spectator engagement and retention."
He added, "With this change in our executive team, Marco will apply his deep experience and powerful leadership skills to grow our business among broadcast clients, while working with the team to continue to expand our global presence in sports. I look forward to working closely with Marco as we enter this exciting new phase of growth."
Lopez was named president of Grass Valley in 2012, overseeing the company's worldwide operations. He first joined Miranda Technologies in 2005 as Vice President of Product Development, driving product management across Miranda's product portfolio. Over the next few years, Lopez assumed additional and broader responsibilities that included research and development, product strategy, and customer support as vice president of the product unit. In 2010, he was named senior vice president, continuing in that role through Belden Inc.'s acquisition of the company in 2012.
Prior to joining Miranda, Lopez spent 11 years in matrox Electronics' video products group, most recently as senior director of sales and marketing. He also served as product manager at Matrox, responsible for product management, application engineering and customer support. Lopez graduated with distinction from Concordia University in Montreal with a degree in computer engineering. He holds an elected position on iabm's board of directors.
Lopez commented, "The streaming industry continues to rapidly shift from proprietary hardware to software-based workflows that run in basic IT-based environments. With strategic solutions such as the highly successful CAMIO Universe, ChyronHego has envisioned the software-driven future and is poised for explosive growth, particularly in the broadcast segment. I couldn't be more excited to join ChyronHego at such a promising time, and I look forward to working with Vector Capital, Johan and the entire team."
