Colombia. In an event held in Bogotá, Panasonic presented for the country its latest developments for the audiovisual and broadcast industry, among which the new projectors and the camera for cinematography AU-EVA1 with Super-35 and a resolution of 5.7K stand out.
With an active resolution of 5720 x 3016, the AU-EVA1 delivers more than 17.25 million pixels, almost double the 8.8 million for 4K DCI (4096 x 2160). Starting with a higher native resolution (which comes built-in), the 5.7K sensor produces a higher resolution image when sampled downstream to 4K, UHD, 2K, or even 720p. In addition, the augmented color information results in a more accurate final image.
A key feature of VariCam cameras, Dual Native ISO, uses a process that allows the sensor to be read in a fundamentally different way, extracting more information without degrading the image. This results in a camera that can switch from a standard sensitivity to a high sensitivity with almost no increase in noise or other artifacts.
The AU-EVA1 offers 14 stops of dynamic range, allowing fine gradation in the exposure from bright to dark. The ability to capture accurate colors and rich skin tones is a must for any filmmaker. The AU-EVA1 features full V-Log/V-Gamut capture to better utilize high dynamic range and wide colors. V-Log has HDR-ready log curve features and V-Gamut offers a color space that will cover BT.2020. This means that it allows to achieve faithful and more realistic colors.
Weighing just 2.65 lbs (1.2 kg, body only) with a compact form factor (6.69" high x 5.31" wide x 5.23" deep) and a removable grip, the AU-EVA1 can be used for efficient manual shooting applications. Due to its compact format, it can also be mounted on a drone, gimbal platform or arms for complex but smooth camera movements.
For lenses, the camera uses a native EF mount, giving shooters access to the extensive EF lens system, which includes dozens of main lenses and cinematic-style zoom from numerous manufacturers. Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) inside the camera will compensate for camera shake and blur, allowing for smooth movement for manual shooting.
Ideal for independent filmmakers, the AU-EVA1 records on readily available, low-cost SD cards. With two SD card slots, you can capture images with Simul Rec (dual simultaneous recording) or Relay Rec (continuous recording). There's also One Shot Record, which allows for single-frame video to stop motion capture.
The camera can record in various formats and compression rates, and offers up to 4:2:2 10-bit even in 4K. For in-camera recording, you can capture in 4K (4096 x 2160), UHD (3840 x 2160), 2K (2048 x 1080), Full HD (1920 x 1080) and HD (1280 x 720). For high-speed capture, the AU-EVA1 offers up to 59.94fps/50fps for 4K/UHD, up to 120fps/100fps for 2K/Full HD, or 240fps/200fps (cropped area).
As a professional video production tool, the AU-EVA1 contains several professional imaging tools, including Peak, Expand (Image Zoom), Waveform, Zebras, and Point Meter (Y-Get). AU-EVA1 also uses Focus Squares, a variety of green squares that grow in size when their local area appears to be sharp, to allow shooters to achieve critical focus.
