Harris' broadcast communications division presented a live demonstration of DVB-H end-to-end during NAB. Harris products offer a complete solution that will allow broadcasters to create content, move it along the production chain and deliver to devices such as cell phones and other similar devices.
"Harris' decades of experience and knowledge of terrestrial streaming has proven invaluable in expanding beyond core businesses and making real-time video on mobile a reality for consumers," said Dale Mowry, vice president and manager of Harris' television business unit.
The demonstration featured UDcast's multi-protocol encapsulator for data insertion, the Synchrony SFN (Single Frequency Network) adapter fully compatible with Harris DVB-H, and the DTV-660 transmitter compatible with Harris' DVB-H Atlas.
In February, Harris announced that it has been chosen as the sole transmission equipment provider for the DVB-H mobile video NTL Broadcasting in the UK. Harris will also provide broadcast equipment and technical support for Sydney, Australia-based Bridge Networks for a 12-month pilot with DVB-H. Both companies will employ Harris' Atlas DTV-660 transmitters for multi-channel terrestrial television delivery on mobile receivers.
The DVB-H allows the simultaneous transmission of television, radio, video, audio and IP data in multichannel to a wide range of multimedia receivers that provide cellular mobiles, PDAs, PCs and other handheld devices. DVB-H uses MPEG-4 AVC, Windows Media 9, AAC, and other advanced, bandwidth-efficient video compression technologies to deliver high-quality services on small screens.
