IFT launches the "power of audiences" contest 2024

Mexico. The IFT launched the fourth call for the capsule contest on Media and Information Literacy (AMI) and Audience Rights "The Power of Audiences" in order to create content that empowers people to consume in a conscious and informed way the audiovisual content offered on the different platforms of the media ecosystem.

Faced with an increasing supply of content alternatives and platforms, the IFT has identified the AMI as a fundamental resource for the empowerment of audiences, which is part of the Institute's 2021-2025 Roadmap, which ensures the quality, diversity and plurality of telecommunications and broadcasting services, in addition to strengthening the rights of users and audiences in the digital ecosystem.

On this fourth occasion, and thanks to the enthusiastic participation in previous editions, undergraduate students from any discipline, from public and private universities throughout the country, are once again invited.

The theme of the contest is: Being able to consciously choose the content to consume, which refers to how the premises of the AMI contribute to making an informed and responsible choice and consumption of the content in the different media.

The contest will once again have two categories: audio and video. Each of the participating pieces may have a duration of 30, 45 or 60 seconds, with the style and creative elements that each enrolled student considers relevant.

The qualifying jury will be made up of public servants, academics, members of civil society organizations and authorities of the IFT, who under the principle of good faith and healthy criticism, will review all the projects received and issue a final opinion, with the determination of the first five places in both categories.

For the evaluation of the pieces, the qualifying jury may take into account some of the following aspects:

A) Originality
B) Content according to the established themes
C) Creativity
D) Technical quality of production

Prizes will be awarded to the 5 best pieces in each category:

First place: 14-inch MacBook Pro, M3 chip, 1TB memory.
Second place: 14-inch MacBook Pro, M3 chip 512GB memory.
Third place: 12.9-inch iPad Pro (Wi-Fi), 512GB memory.
Fourth place: iPhone 15 Pro, 256GB memory.
Fifth place: iPhone 15, 256GB of memory.

The deadline to register for the contest is March 29, 2024. Once their registration has been validated, participants will have until May 31 to submit their pieces.

The names of the winners of the Call will be announced on the We Are Audiences microsite and other platforms of the Institute, on June 27, 2024. The award ceremony will take place between July 1 and July 18, 2024.

Since its creation, the Institute has confirmed that the promotion of MIL is a fundamental alternative to face the challenges posed by the constant evolution of the media ecosystem. Faced with a growing offer of platforms and technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, the AMI remains a tool that provides elements to consume and share information and audiovisual content in an informed way, hence the importance of maintaining efforts such as this contest.
