Peru. The Ministry of Transport and Communications, MTC, granted 257 new radio and television authorizations during 2023. As a result of these authorizations, more than 815,000 people will benefit from new radio stations in the FM band and more than 270,000 with TV stations in the VHF band.
It should be noted that, of the 257 new authorizations, 198 correspond to radio and 59 to television. In addition, 34 localities will benefit for the first time from FM radio service, which will reach 154 districts comprising approximately 3 million people. In addition, for the first time, a locality will have television service in the VHF band, which will benefit 35 districts that bring together approximately 270 thousand people.
Rural areas
It should be noted that 80% of the authorizations granted during 2023 are located in rural areas and areas of preferential social interest. This reflects the interest of individuals and legal entities in investing in these remote areas, promoting social and cultural development, as well as the commitment of the State, through a simplified regime, with economic benefits for those who bet on these localities.
"Currently, 97% of districts in Peru have FM radio coverage and 60% have VHF television service. These figures show that the efforts to reduce the gap in access to telecommunications services are bearing fruit, but they also commit us to providing better conditions for the optimal development of telecommunications for the benefit of more Peruvians," said the Deputy Minister of Communications, Carla Sosa Vela.
