Colombia. The Communications Regulatory Commission (CRC) identified the need to clarify and harmonize regulatory provisions to allow the development, through the regulatory sandbox, of projects that require the relaxation of regulation applicable to communications services.
This includes those that in the future may be developed jointly with regulated agents of audiovisual content, under the competences of the two committee sessions that make up the entity.
Thus, taking into account the experience acquired with the first call launched in April 2021, of which one of the two approved projects has already been completed and the other is currently finishing the exit phase, the Commission issued Resolution CRC 7243 of 2023, which incorporates some improvements to the provisions currently contained in the regulation applicable to this matter, strengthening the development of future regulatory sandboxes, giving greater clarity to the scope of evaluation of indicators, reducing burdens on proposers and streamlining the analysis of proposals.
"With the regulatory clarifications issued, the Commission seeks to make the regulatory Sandbox a clearer and more agile process. In 2024 we hope to open a new call to experiment with innovative projects in telecommunications and audiovisual content that benefit a wider universe of users and audiences," explained Nicolás Silva Cortés, Commissioner and Executive Director of the CRC.
