Brazil. The Hesed Institute, a Catholic community located in the municipality of Fortaleza, initiated a project of production and broadcast of video in 4K by the hand of the Pinnacle Group, with its division for special projects AbracadabraZ, using the products of Blackmagic Design.
The Hesed Institute, also known as "Monasterio Santa Maria dos Anjos e São José", owes its name to the Word Hesed of Hebrew origin meaning "mercy", was founded on November 30, 1997, but only until January 1998, it receives its name from sisters Kelly Patrícia and Jane Madeleine, who make the first retreat. Today there are more than 120 people, including sisters and brothers, distributed in female and male houses, who make up this community. In addition, it has spaces that are used by the nearby community to attend various religious meetings.
Due to the pandemic of 2020, thousands of faithful who had to stop attending the monastery of that institution, stopping accessing masses and other celebrations. In view of this, the sisters saw in the streaming format as the solution to ensure the spiritual needs of the sector and continue with the development of meetings, guaranteeing the safety of the parishioners.
Solution implemented by AbracadabraZ
After having a contact process with the Technical Assistance and taking a course on production with blackmagic Design's ATEM switcher line, Sister Maria Joana told the AbracadabraZ support group that they needed to improve the quality of their transmissions, since they had decided to become an online TV channel. Then the engineers and consultants made a technical visit to know the place, understand its needs and objectives.
Thus, and as the congregation already knew the systems of Blackmagic Design, an update of the equipment was made, including the cameras, switchers, recorders and encoders for the entire transmission, with a complete training on the operation of the ATEM Television Studio 4K and Web Presenter 4K systems.
Step by step
The first advance was the upgrade of the Switcher, the "brain" of production, by the ATEM Television Studio Pro 4K model, prepared to maximize quality by working with 8 12G SDI video inputs at 2160p60. To which are added the Studio 4K Pro cameras, chosen because they take advantage of all the professional resources and facilitators, such as the control of the Focus and Zoom lenses, make color control through the ATEM software. In addition, these cameras have a CCU / RCP (Remote Camera Panel) and large screen with View Finder.
To complete the production there was also a HyperDeck Studio Pro 4K recorder and a 4K Web Presenter encoder, which deliver a very high quality 4K video signal to YouTube with the capacity to load up to 45 Mbs. Important issue because the sisters had a preference for transmitting fairly on Youtube, Facebook and Instagram.
In addition to these equipment, there were tripods of the E-Image line, with Dolly (wheels) for a better movement of the cameras between the scenarios set in the studio and the LED Panels, generating a better quality in the lighting. Meanwhile, the entire production uses Hollyland's Intercom Mar sT1000, providing a high-quality conversation between the sisters who are in camera operation and the technical center.
Finally, after the implementation, network, internet and wiring adjustments were made in general, with which AbracadabraZ managed to deliver the project, which allows the Hesed Institute to make optimal use of its YouTube channel, maintaining the agreed deadline for the first transmissions in 4K.
