Latin America. Blackmagic Design highlighted the films nominated for the 23rd edition of the Academy Awards and the professionals who made their realization possible. The company highlighted that its products, including the DaVinci Resolve Studio program and the Pocket Cinema Camera 6K model, were used in avant-garde feature films such as "Mulan", "Minari" and "World News".
The candidate films come from several countries and have been nominated in different categories, for example, best film, best foreign film, best documentary and best visual effects.
The Pocket Cinema Camera 6K model was used to shoot "Hunger Ward", a short film about the war in Yemen nominated for best documentary. For its part, the color grading was carried out in DaVinci Resolve. The film was shot in two of the country's busiest therapeutic feeding centres and is about two health workers fighting the spread of famine in the context of a forgotten conflict.
Chief Cinematographer Jeffrey Ball said: "Filming in an active war zone forced us to be discreet and efficient to be able to shoot at any time. For example, the camera allowed us to capture the image of a girl who had an intravenous needle removed in one of the centers where the director was, who had the opportunity to shoot without meddling. These kinds of shots were central to the story we were trying to tell, and the Pocket Cinema Camera 6K model worked like a charm."
