Mexico. The Federal Institute of Telecommunications, IFT, decided to initiate a public consultation on the effectiveness in terms of competition of the measures imposed on the Preponderant Economic Agent (AEP) in the broadcasting sector, which will be in force until May 7, 2021.
The objective of the consultation is to have elements of analysis that may be useful to evaluate the effectiveness, efficiency and impact of the measures imposed and, where appropriate, to receive proposals for their deletion, modification or addition.
In compliance with the provisions of the Eighth Transitory Article of the Constitutional Reform on Telecommunications and Broadcasting, the Institute determined in March 2014 the existence of preponderant economic agents (AEP) in these sectors and imposed on them the necessary measures to avoid affecting competition and free competition and, with it, to end users.
In the resolutions on preponderance, the IFT self-imposed to carry out a review of the effectiveness of the measures imposed on the ASP in order that, if necessary, it could abolish, modify or, where appropriate, impose new ones.
In this sense, the Plenary of the Institute determined in its VII Ordinary Session to carry out the public consultation on the effectiveness in terms of competition of the measures imposed on the ASP in the broadcasting sector, which will allow to have greater elements that serve for the analysis that will be carried out in the procedure of review of measures.
