Brazil. The Brazil-based RBS Group chose Pebble Beach Systems to provide playout automation and control of all its stations.
As part of the second largest commercial network in the world, RBS TV is an affiliate group of TV Globo that broadcasts news, entertainment and sports throughout Brazil through its local stations, broadcasting up to 12 television playlists.
RBS contacted Pebble through its local partner Videodata to design a solution that would increase the overall efficiency of its playout operations and ensure a consistent look and feel for all its stations. While local programming is still important, the goal was for each of these stations to run in an automated manner if necessary.
Pebble Beach Systems provided an automation system that allows different operating models to be used. The solution was designed in close collaboration between RBS, Videodata and Pebble Beach Systems Ltd. This system will be installed by Videodata, the system integrator. It includes integrated channel devices defined by Dolphin software, Marina playout automation, and control through Pebble's lighthouse web-based monitoring and control solution. Fully redundant automation includes SCTE activation to optimize content insertion for each region.
"Pebble Beach Systems' advanced technology allowed us to create a hub-spoke playout system that provides simple control over many domains," said Rosalvo Carvalho, CEO of Videodata. "This gives RBS new flexibility and remote operation capability never before possible."
RBS stations can now use media from a centrally managed location, and operators can schedule the playout in different ways, and even make changes in real time, hundreds of miles away.
"This advanced automation and playout solution gives us the ability to do much more with fewer resources," said Carlos Fini, Chief Technology Officer at RBS. "We are thrilled to partner with Pebble and Videodata, both companies with credibility and proven knowledge to get the job done."
