Peru. As part of its frontal fight against practices contrary to the regulations, the Ministry of Transport and Communications, MTC, intensified the inspections and sanctions against those broadcasters that operate illegally, at the national level.
On this occasion, two illegal stations were intervened: Radio 89.4 (89.4 MHz), located in zone G of Huaycán and Radio Encanto (89.5 MHz), located on Túpac Amaru Avenue No. 528-Santa Anita. These stations invaded the radio spectrum outside the law.
The supervisory agents of the General Directorate of Communications Inspections and Sanctions (DGFSC) seized transmitters, consoles, antennas, monitors, among other telecommunications equipment, which were used to transmit on unauthorized frequencies.
Patricia Díaz Ubillus, general director of the DGFSC, indicated that this year it has been proposed to increase the number of interventions in Lima and the regions of the country. "To this end, a multisectoral group has been formed and we have the support of the National Police of Peru (PNP) and the Public Ministry," he said.
"Currently, state-of-the-art technology is used, which has the ability to locate and identify – with precision – where the transmission equipment and the studies of these clandestine stations are located," he added.
He warned that pirate radios can even put people's lives and integrity at risk whenever they interfere with the air navigation system.
Sanctions
Operating an illegal broadcasting station, whether radio or television, represents the crime of aggravated theft of the radio spectrum. It is punishable by up to eight years of imprisonment and the payment of fines that can reach up to 50 Tax Units (UIT), that is, S / 210 thousand.
Likewise, those who advertise in these informal stations will also be subject to pecuniary sanctions between 10 and 30 ITU (S / 126 thousand), according to current regulations.
