Colombia. On March 28, the Ministry of Information and Communications Technologies (MinTIC) announced the allocation of new community stations and invited all interested parties to express their interest, as a first step in the allocation process.
To date, the number of demonstrations exceeds the current number of existing community radio stations (626), which indicates the importance of obtaining operating licenses from organized communities in the national territory.
"Currently, we have received 814 expressions of interest and we hope to continue increasing this number as a sign of our support for community media, as we recognize how important they are for our regions," said ICT Minister Sylvia Constaín.
With this process, MinTIC ensures that regions have new offers that help improve regional identity and communication opportunities, and that the population becomes part of the solution to the problems that occur in their territories.
The project has several stages, starting with the expression of interest. This will allow to conclude the technical planning that will enable the publication of pre-specifications, in which the communities will be able to participate and make their comments. Finally, the final specifications will be published in September of this year, with which the opening to the process of assigning stations will be made.
All those organized communities that reside in the respective municipality in which they are applying and have the operational capacity, may continue to participate until May 10 through the following link: http://gestion-espectro.mintic.gov.co/
