Peru. With the participation of more than 600 broadcasters affiliated with the Coordinator of Local Media - Medios Perú, and guest broadcasters from all over the country, the Congress of Journalism, Radio and Television and the international technology fair Expotec Peru 2018 culminated successfully in Arequipa.
State advertising was one of the topics most intensely debated by those attending this Congress. The vice president and congresswoman Mercedes Aráoz, announced her bill on government communication in which she includes the media of provinces, for which she proposes to make the media selection process transparent and make all stations visible through an updated base of legal and duly authorized media.
For their part, the broadcasters and representatives of the main organizations linked to advertising, signed the Declaration of Arequipa, with 6 points that are aimed at strengthening the right of all citizens to be informed about the actions of the State, especially in the interior of the country, where the local media are their main sources of information.
Meanwhile, the broadcasters through their regional leaders demanded that in the proposal of a new norm, a percentage of 70% be included for the media of provinces and 30% for the media of the capital. In that sense, they signed a pronouncement in which they also ask for compensation for the damages caused by the Mulder Law.
Both documents will be delivered to President Martín Vizcarra and the congressmen of the Republic, so that they can consider it in the debates of the new State Advertising Law.
The organizers of the event stressed that the negative thing was that in the Congress, some broadcasters who were not part of the organization of the same, and who have their own political interests, tried to use the Congress of Broadcasters for personal purposes, trying to use the issue of state advertising to break the unity of the broadcasters and the institutional work done by the Coordinadora de Medios Perú, however, they were roundly rejected and their opportunism and use of the event for subaltern purposes were addressed. The event continued normally, fulfilling the goal and objectives set.
