IFT makes public consultation on reduction of fines

Mexico. The Investigating Authority of the Federal Institute of Telecommunications, IFT, submitted for public consultation the "Preliminary Draft of Amendments to the Regulatory Provisions of the Federal Law on Economic Competition for the Telecommunications and Broadcasting Sectors" and the "Preliminary Draft Guide to the Procedure for Waiving or Reducing the Amount of Fines in Investigations of Relative Monopolistic Practices or Unlawful Concentrations, for the telecommunications and broadcasting sectors".

The Preliminary Drafts seek to regulate the procedure for waiving or reducing the amount of fines in investigations of relative monopolistic practices or illegal concentrations in the telecommunications and broadcasting sectors, provided for in articles 100, 101 and 102 of the Federal Law on Economic Competition, as well as to guide the general public on this procedure.

The Preliminary Drafts identify the requirements that the application document must meet; the actions that may be taken by the Investigating Authority and the applicant during the proceedings; the meaning of the resolution that may be issued by the Plenary of the Institute and the elements that may be taken into consideration for this, as well as the conclusion or resumption of the investigation, as appropriate.
