TAO, Televisa's new division for premium content

Mexico. In order to develop, produce and distribute premium content with an emphasis on Latin American and multicultural stories and characters, Grupo Televisa de México has created its new division Televisa Alternative Originals, TAO.

The new division, which will have a presence in Los Angeles and Mexico City, will have a team dedicated to creating high-quality fiction content for SVOD services and cable platforms globally.

In its first deal, TAO has signed a distribution commitment with Amazon Prime Video of several series. The global rights to SVOD will be held by Amazon Prime Video, which will distribute the series to its customers around the world, in more than 200 countries and territories. Televisa will have the rights to its broadcast and pay-TV platforms in Mexico, and in the United States through Univision's platforms, bringing these high-quality content to a wider audience.

Televisa highlighted that this vision of creating premium series through TAO, is a commitment to the development and production of original content, along with its approach to bringing fascinating stories with unique voices to global audiences. The agreement between TAO and Amazon, positions the company as a key player in the region in this high-growth segment in the industry, collaborating with a platform that gives a very wide scope to content.

Amazon positioned this partnership with TAO as an important move in the distribution of high-quality Spanish-language content to its Amazon Prime Video subscribers in Mexico, Latin America and the rest of the world, and as a further step in its effort to expand its offering of original local series on the platform.

With the accelerated growth of the multi-billion dollar streaming industry globally, TAO fills a gap in the market, with access to and detailed knowledge of multicultural stories and Latin American talent. TAO will benefit from the vast reach of Televisa's platforms, as well as its abundant relationships and expertise in the region, uniquely amplifying its voice in an increasingly competitive space.
