IFT presented telco service rate report

Mexico. In order to provide information that is useful for the population when contracting a service, the Federal Institute of Telecommunications, IFT, released the Report of Comparable Information of Plans and Rates of Fixed Telecommunications Services 2017. This study contains relevant data on the offer of fixed internet, fixed telephony and pay television services, in their double and triple play contracting modalities.

For the preparation of the same, the residential plans available until October 16, 2017 that were disseminated on the electronic pages of the concessionaires through their names and / or trademarks were considered. In addition, it was verified that they were registered in the Public Registry of Telecommunications.

For double play services, plans were considered that include: internet and fixed telephony; internet and pay TV; as well as telephony and pay TV. The report also includes the costs for contracting the pay TV service on an additional screen, both in this modality and in the triple play.

Among the most relevant data of the Report of Comparable Information of Plans and Rates of Fixed Telecommunications Services 2017, are:

Internet and fixed telephony
We analyzed 23 plans offered by the concessionaires with the greatest representativeness in the market, for the distribution of broadband subscriptions and telephone lines, of which:

96% of the plans included unlimited local calling, as well as unlimited minutes-to-mobile calls.
100% incorporated calls per minute of International Long Distance, unlimited.
61% of internet and fixed telephony plans included a download speed less than or equal to 10 Mbps; 22% a download speed of less than 4 Mbps; another 22% a speed of 4 Mbps and less than 10 Mbps; 30% included a download speed of 10 Mbps to 20 Mbps and 26% incorporated a download speed greater than 20 Mbps.
Coahuila, State of Mexico, Guanajuato, Jalisco, Querétaro, San Luis Potosí and Tamaulipas are the states with the largest presence of concessionaires (six). While in the states of Baja California Sur, Nayarit, Oaxaca and Tabasco the service was offered by two concessionaires.

Internet and Pay TV
We analyzed 31 internet and pay TV plans, offered by the dealers with the greatest representativeness in the market, of which:

The monthly rent depended to a greater extent (87%) on the number of channels included and in a smaller proportion (10%) on the place of hiring.
The costs per additional television in which the service was provided, ranged between 65 and 100 pesos.
In Jalisco, the Internet and Pay TV service was offered by five concessionaires, while in Aguascalientes, Baja California Sur, Chihuahua, Mexico City, Colima, Michoacán, Quintana Roo, Sonora, Tabasco, Tlaxcala, Yucatán and Zacatecas, only one concessionaire offered the service.

Fixed telephony and pay TV
8 fixed telephony and pay TV plans were analyzed in the double play mode, of which:

100% offered local calls, calls per minute to mobile and calls per minute of International Long Distance, in an unlimited way.
Two dealerships offered plans that included more than 100 channels.
The cost of providing the service on an additional TV in some plans was 65 pesos. Other dealers did not allow hiring additional televisions to those already included.
Tamaulipas was the state with the largest presence of concessionaires; while Campeche, Chiapas, Colima, State of Mexico, Guerrero, Michoacán, Nuevo León, Quintana Roo, Tlaxcala and Zacatecas were the ones with the lowest supply.

Internet, fixed telephony and pay TV
Under this modality, 60 dealer plans with greater representativeness in the market were analyzed, of which:

100% of the plans included unlimited local calls and International Long Distance calls per minute.
80% of the plans incorporated unlimited calls per minute to mobile.
65% of the plans had a download speed less than or equal to 10 Mbps.
The channels included in the plans range from 19 to 186 channels and the included TVs range from 1 to 4.
73% of the plans included only standard definition (SD) channels. The rest (27%) high definition (HD).
The costs per additional television in which the service was provided, ranged between 65 and 100 pesos.

In Jalisco, five concessionaires offered this type of service to users. In 14 states only one.
