International. Dalet announced that BBC Wales has selected Media Asset Management (MAM) and Organisational Platform Dalet Galaxy to facilitate all workflows and asset management requirements at its new state-of-the-art media facility in Cardiff, Wales.
Once launched, Dalet Galaxy will offer a centralized content repository and provide tools to organize workflows and support processes for production, news, studio and delivery departments. The design of the massive facility and the multi-year operation will be managed by Dalet Professional Services, which will guarantee the success of customers during the transformation that will provide agility and maximize the return on investment (ROI).
"BBC Wales is delighted to be working with Dalet to be able to provide an asset management system for our new home in Cardiff's Central Square. Dalet was chosen after a very competitive process, and will constitute an important part of the technological solution in the Central Plaza within a state-of-the-art transmission center. We look forward to the successful delivery of the project," said Gareth Powell, Head of Operations at BBC Wales.
As the core media core, Dalet Galaxy will roll out as the cornerstone of the new digital facility. All systems and sub-systems implemented in future phases will be connected to this hub. The BPMN-compliant Dalet Workflow Engine with the latest technology will enable BBC to orchestrate a combination of user tasks and media services ranging from ingestion, trans-coding and QC, to recording, editing, media packaging and distribution.
An easy-to-use interface designed for workflow allows users to model business processes, choose from a palette of stencils of operations such as user tasks and notifications, media and metadata services, portals, error and timeout management, and much more.
The broad and open Dalet Galaxy API will enable BBC to closely connect storage and infrastructure technologies, media services and post-production applications, and enterprise traffic and platforms, orchestrating a seamless workflow that tracks assets and associated metadata across the media company.
"We have been working with the BBC on multiple projects for over fifteen years," says Adrian Smith, Regional Manager, Dalet UK. Dalet Galaxy's flexible architecture provides a future-proof framework with which the BBC can evolve to meet the new demands and production needs that will emerge over the course of the coming months and even years. The dalet Professional Services team's expertise in managing these types of enterprise deployments will help navigate the gigantic large-scale operation for years to come."
In addition to Dalet Galaxy, Dalet will supply a new Dalet HTML application to simplify the handling and ingestion of camera cards and its Dalet Brio video server. With support for both SDI and IP, Dalet Brio's versatile broadcast and ingest platform complies with SMPTE 2110 standards, allowing broadcasters to take a step into the future of IP while maintaining SDI security.
